So you've decided to move to Spain, but since Brexit it's a lot more complicated for British people.
But you can still do it.
There are various visas available that enables you to live and or work in Spain and some can lead to residency. These can be obtained by persons from Countries outside of the EU including the UK.
We've detailed some of them here - but always get legal advise to see if you qualify.
Golden Visa: Those that have a 'Golden' Visa in Spain then have Spanish residency. This means that they have the legal right to live and work within the Spanish territory and also their closest relatives. And they will have access to the following benefits and rights. Permission to live and work in Spain. You can either be self-employed (Autonomo) or work as an employee. You will also have the freedom to travel througout the EU Schengen area. These rights can also be extended to other close family members. You/close family will gain access to the Spanish public services and be able to, after 10 years, gain Spanish citizenship if you wish. One of the ways to gain the Golden Visa was to invest in residential property spending €500,000 or more. This however will soon (currently going thru' the Spanish Parliament as of June 2024) no longer be a qualifying way to get the Visa. But you can still either invest €2m in Spanish public debt, deposit €1m in a Spanish bank, or invest €1m in a Spanish company - with any of these options allowing you to obtain the visa.
Student Visa: There are various ways to obtain a studen visa - too many to go into detail here so you would need to look into this further. But the main options are. There are different requirements for all visas which can depend on your coutnry of origin, obtaining a medical certificate, usually a certifcate about any criminal past or lack of, proof of funds etc.
Digital Nomad Visa: These Visas are very popular. These will give you a 3 year residency permit. You apply for such either whilst visiting Spain as a tourist or apply from your home country. You can apply for the digital nomad visa if you work for a company as an employee remotely that is not based in Spain. Or if you are self-employed / freelance with your clients based abroad. Or, if you get your income from your own online businesses or other sources that are outside of Spain. The main requirements: Any part of your income from Spain must not exceed 20%. Or that you can prove that you have been working for the company you will be working for remotely, for more than three months and that the company must have been established for at least one year. You must prove that you have at least three years experience working in the same field or that you graduated from university or similar. You need to take out private health care with the correct level of coverage. Another important factor is to show that you have enough funds of at least €32,750 per year. Any years you work with this Visa count towards permanent residency or citizenship. And you also have free movement with the Schengen area.
Entrepreneur Visa: This one is a bit more complicated aimed at non EU citizens with entrepreneural flair that wants to start a business in Spain that is different and innovative from what is already available in Spain. It's similar to a self-employed visa but for someone that wishes to move to Spain and create something new for the market.
Family Visa: Also known as the reunification visa. A person legally residing in Spain with a resident permit can bring their relatives to come and live with them in Spain. One of the main rules is that the person inviting family to come and live with them, must have renewed their original permit. This rule does not apply to those who have gained their TIE residency under the brexit withdrawal agreement. You must be able to prove that any family memeber you wish to bring to Spain depends on you financially (excluding WA) You can invite your spouse, long term partner, children under 18 years of age and your mother or your father.
